The Role

Shifa International Hospital (H-8, Islamabad) is hiring a Perfusionist for its Operating Room to conduct extracorporeal circulation, ensure safe management of physiological functions and advise physicians on equipment and technique during extracorporeal circulation. The post is full time on all shifts (24/7); salary not disclosed.

•Maintain, follow and establish departmental objectives, policies and procedures •Demonstrate safe pre, peri and post care of cardiac and liver surgery patients, equipment and OR •Coordinate operational matters with the HOD effectively •Keep accurate documentation, e.g. pre-op perfusion data, perfusion checklist, pharmacy, supply form and log book •Maintain a comfortable, clean and safe environment for patients •Maintain aseptic techniques in operating rooms and open sterile supplies and sets aseptically •Maintain equipment in working condition and report faults to seniors •Prepare the operating room with appropriate instruments, heart-lung machine, supplies and equipment •Monitor emotional stability of patients and report changes to the consultant •Dispose of sharps properly and ensure teamwork •Participate in teaching sessions in OR and NES •Prepare the cardiopulmonary bypass circuit for all cardiac surgical procedures •Help insert the intra-aortic balloon catheter (IABC), monitor the patient after insertion and teach ICU staff •Operate the cell saver, ACT (Activated Clotting Time) machine and heat exchanger during surgery •Select suitable supplies for all cardiac surgical procedures and maintain par levels for open heart and liver transplant surgery equipment •Stand by for high-risk angiography and angioplasty •Help in assessment of cardiac surgery packages •Maintain a logbook of all open heart and liver transplant surgeries •Coordinate between cath lab, cardiac surgeon, anesthesiologist and operation theater •Help in training and orientation of staff •Ensure compliance with infection control, safe patient care and hand hygiene practices •Maintain confidentiality of patient information •Participate in quality improvement and assurance activities •Supervise leaves and attendance roster
