Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) Counselor

The Role

IYCF/ ECD Counselor for Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan under IRC's short-term UNICEF-funded nutrition project in seven districts of Punjab (initially 4 months, with possible extension). The counselor works in a three-member outreach team and reports to the District Program Officer.

•Assess IYCF practices among mothers and caregivers with children under 24 months •Identify IYCF malpractices or gaps and provide tailored one-to-one counseling •Counsel pregnant women on preparation for breastfeeding and the importance of colostrum feeding •Use approved education materials on breastfeeding and complementary feeding •Deliver IYCF group counseling sessions for mother groups and father groups in each village •Facilitate mother-to-mother support group sessions and identify model mothers •Support delivery of ECD activities and ECD Play Labs where established •Support the Nutrition Facilitator during community screening, referral and follow-up of malnourished children •Maintain records of counseling sessions and submit monthly IYCF reports to the District Program Officer •Coordinate with the Nutrition Facilitator and Community Outreach Worker on joint outreach activities
