The Role
Senior Medical Officer in the Department of Medicine (Gastroenterology) at Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi, providing and managing patient care with consultants and the care team.
•Provide direct patient care and coordinate care delivery under supervision of consultants •Perform daily rounds and carry out initial evaluations and investigations as per institutional protocols •Perform procedures including pleural biopsy, chest tube insertion, central line insertion, Joe Cath insertion and ascitic fluid aspiration and manage medical emergencies •Ensure accurate and timely documentation of clinical and progress notes and patient records •Counsel and educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatment plans and healthcare needs •Ensure timely and appropriate transfer of cases to other services or hospitals as per policy •Participate in educational activities (Grand Rounds, Journal Clubs) and quality, JCIA, ISO and infection control initiatives •Provide administrative support and take part in service line meetings, trainings and quality improvement projects

Education, Experience and Skills Requirements
- Professional Bachelor: Medical
At least 2-3 years of post-MBBS clinical experience including at least two years of Internal Medicine residency; or house job with four years of Internal Medicine residency; or 3-8 years of clinical experience with an additional diploma or MCPS Preferred: Training or hands-on experience in ICU settings, particularly endotracheal intubation, central venous line insertion and arterial line placement
